Alcohol Is By The Pharmacy

I woke up Thanksgiving morning to the sweet smell of- nothing, and the sounds of- nothing. Suddenly I felt the urge to rejoice. Could it be? Could today my wish of not eating turkey on Thanksgiving be granted?

Then my phone started going off. “We” have to cook and it has to be ready by noon.

I don’t mind eating like a schizophrenic, cooking like one though… Yeah, I have a problem with that.

First item on my list, Tequila and every Liquor store was closed, except Walmart.

“Excuse me? Where’s the alcohol? I asked.

“It’s by the pharmacy,” a staff member answered.

Me, “Yeah, it’s not that type of pain.”

He had no idea what I was looking for, but in a matter of seconds Santa’s helpers filtered through the isles to point me in the right direction-out of state because Walmart did not have alcohol at this location.

Next Episode in 5, 4, 3

That’s how I spent the weekend, watching The Punisher, a Netflix original-Marvel productions. I’m the type of person that will do sequels, but I’m not a fan of any series. This series, however, got me hooked since the pilot, so now I’m waiting on Season 2.

In the mean time, it’s time to get back to health and fitness, because I survived 13.1. Now, I must conquer it.

“You Drop Your Cheese”

I don’t need to check my bag. I’ll just leave my stuff in the car which is a plus because any one who has run 5K or more knows that everything becomes extremely heavy when running. Sunglasses can feel like 5 pounds. A t- shirt-forget it.

This is a long run, so I packed a lunch because I’m not going for first place. I have 2 KIND bars, cheese sticks, two as well because I like Closure. Get it? Closure as in Mathematics because they’re both even #s?

Anyway, as I passed mile one, I heard from a distance, “You drop your cheese.” I’ve hit the wall before on a 26.2 race, and I never forgot that. I swore that I would never go through that again. One never knows, if the race will have enough volunteers, water posts or goodies throughout the course. Everyone was losing stuff throughout the race, it wasn’t just me and my cheese.

It’s All Fun And Games ‘Till The Gun Goes Off

“Excuse me? Hello? Where’s the starting line?” I asked anxiously. A gentleman who was working on putting up the starting line walked halfway in my direction and yelled as if he wanted to be heard without having to take any more steps than necessary to answer my question replied, “right here. It’s here.” “Where’s everybody?” I asked “It doesn’t start ’till 8:30 AM,” he responded as if asking to himself “why the hell are you here so early?”

Me anxious about the run? No, I just wanted to make sure I was in the right place.

I’ve been to long runs before. Most make a huge party a day or 2 when picking up your packet yet this one had a feeling of a Ma’ and Pa’ type of run, only it wasn’t. It was actually a Boston Qualifying event!

Me? Qualifying? NO! I’m just reclaiming my health by helping my body remember the glory years.

Waiting For Start Up

As I sat in the car waiting for the 8:30AM race to began, I noticed that not many cars were in the parking lot, and soon anxiety began to kick in. I looked at my number and it read 1715. Are there only 1715 participants and that’s why I don’t see that many cars?

Then another thought kicked in as soon as the other one ended, “Oh, my, you’re going to be in last place if only 1715 people signed up?” I bet your sucking wind now, wishing you would’ve trained better, put more miles into the training, maybe some weight training?”

Then a conscious thought to put all the bitching self talk to rest, “HEY, THE WARRIOR IS LISTENING!” And just like that the voices turned into cheer leaders. That’s right bitches! I am the captain of this ship!

What is the goal? The goal is to reclaim my body and health to pre being run over status. I signed up for a marathon long ago and slowly started to strengthen my body with an every other day exercise regimen and a commitment to run a marathon. I’ve done them before, so no biggie. I went to pick up my packet and I knew in my heart that I could not finished the marathon, so I switched it to the 1/2 marathon. You know what they say, change your approach but never the goal.
